Etymology

Borrowed from Tatar малахай (malaxay),[1][2] ultimately from Middle Mongol ᠮᠠᠯᠠᠭᠠᠢ (malaɣai, hat).[3][4] Compare with Mongolian малгай (malgaj).[5]
