Usage notes
[edit]- In the Soviet Union and many Eastern Bloc states, as well as in some post-Soviet successor states (until 2011 in Russia), the police was known as мили́ция (milícija). As a result, during the Soviet and early post-Soviet period, the term поли́ция (polícija) referred mainly to foreign (Western Bloc) or pre-revolutionary police forces.
