Derived via Western European languages from Ancient Greek μέθοδος (méthodos) + -λογία (-logía). By surface analysis, ме́тод (métod) +‎ -о- (-o-) +‎ -ло́гія (-lóhija). Compare Russian методоло́гия (metodológija), Belarusian метадало́гія (mjetadalóhija), Polish metodologia.
