[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak mäkký, mekký, influenced by Old Ruthenian мѧ́гкїй (mjáhkij), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *mękъkъ. Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn мня́гкый (mnjáhkŷj) and Slovak mäkký.
