[edit]масло (maslo, “oil, butter”) + -ина (-ina), from Proto-Slavic *maslo; a calque of Ancient Greek ἐλαίᾱ (elaíā, “olive tree”), which was perceived as derived from ἔλαιον (élaion, “olive oil”).
