Etymology

From Proto-Samic *luomēn, probably borrowed from Proto-Norse *ᛒᛚᛟᛗᛟᚾ (*blōmōn), from Proto-Germanic *blōmô (flower).

Cognates include Skolt Sami lueʹm, Ter Sami лы̄мэнҍ (lïmen') and Northern Sami luomi.
