Adaptation of a Western language lesbian (itself eventually tracing back to Ancient Greek Λέσβος (Lésbos, Lesbos), the native island of Sappho, a poetess associated with female homosexuality in the Western literary canon) with the Russian feminizing suffix -ка (-ka).
