[edit]Inherited from Common Turkic *qï̄zï, from Proto-Turkic *kï̄řï. By surface analysis, кыыс (kııs, “girl; daughter”) + -а (-a, vowel harmonic third-person singular possessed suffix).
Cognate with Tuvan кызы (kızı), Kazakh қызы (qyzy), Turkish kızı, etc.
