Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from French croissant (crescent, croissant), from Latin crēscēns, from crēscō (I grow, increase).

  • (Croat): Likely from the fact Croatia looks like an elongated croissant, as well as kroasan being similar in pronunciation to kroat, an earlier slur for particularly Westernized Croats who were perceived as traitors of Slavdom (especially when also being intolerant of Serbs).
