Plural of кознь (koznʹ, intrigue, plot, machination), further, borrowed from Old Church Slavonic къзнь (kŭznĭ), from Proto-Slavic *kъznь, from *kovati (to forge), whence also Old Church Slavonic ковати (kovati, to forge, to plot) and Russian кова́ть (kovátʹ, to forge).
