[edit]Either:
- From an earlier кле́пка (klépka), a diminutive of Proto-Slavic *klępa (“snare, noose”) + -ка (-ka);
- Formed on a native soil from кле́фам (kléfam, “to stroll”) or perhaps кле́пя (klépja, “to wear out”).

- (somewhat derogatory) simple footwear: sandal, slipper, house shoe
