[edit]Of onomatopoeic origin, similar to Bulgarian бълбу́к (bǎlbúk, “sound of bubbling water”). Formally reflects Proto-Slavic *kolbukъ (with stem probably related to Russian колоб (kolob, “sphere, ball”)).
