[edit]From Proto-Samic *keasē, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *kesä, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁es-en-. Cognates include Finnish kesä, Northern Sami geassi, Skolt Sami ǩieʹss and Erzya кизэ (kize).
