From Proto-Turkic *karlïgač (swallow).

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (qarlïğač, swallow); Kazakh қарлығаш (qarlyğaş, swallow), Kyrgyz кардыгач (kardıgac, swift (bird)), Shor қарлығаш (swallow), Crimean Tatar qarılğaç, Uzbek qaldirg'och, Uyghur قالغاچ (qalghach), Turkish kırlangıç (swallow).
