[edit]From *qadїn-ata "father-in-law", from Proto-Turkic *kādɨn (“in-law”) + Proto-Turkic *ata (“father”).
Cognate with Crimean Tatar qaynata, Kumyk къайын ата (qayın ata) / къайната (qaynata), Uzbek qaynata, Turkmen gaýynata, Turkish kaynata, Azerbaijani qayınata, etc.
