[edit]From Proto-Samic *kājŋēl. Related to Finnish kainalo and probably Southern Selkup ӄа̄лины (qāliny).
Cognates include Southern Sami gaejnjele, Ume Sami [Term?] (gàidˈŋjèla), Pite Sami [Term?] (“kaajngiel”), Skolt Sami [Term?] (kȧ̀in̜elᴅɐ̑ᵓk̀) and Ter Sami кайӈэль (kâjŋelʼ).
