From Proto-Turkic *erik (strength, might, will, power).

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (erk), Old Uyghur [script needed] (erk, power, will, dominance);[1] Kazakh ерік (erık), Kyrgyz эрк (erk), эрик (erik), Southern Altai эрик (erik), Uzbek erk (will, liberty); see also Hungarian erő (strength, force, power).
