[edit]Unclear. Perhaps an alteration of единоро́г (jedinoróg, “unicorn”); alternatively, perhaps from the Slavic transliteration of an animal name (Ancient Greek ἔνυδρις (énudris, “otter”) or ὕδρωψ (húdrōps, “water beast, aurochs”)) in the Physiologus.
