Etymology
[edit]A paired term, where the first component derives from Proto-Turkic *em (“medicine, cure”), and the second from a Mongolic source (compare Mongolian дом (dom, “spell, folk medicine”)), from Proto-Mongolic *dom (“spell, divination”).
Compare to Kazakh ем-дом (em-dom, “traditional healing practices”), Southern Altai эм-том (em-tom, “medicine”), Turkmen em-dem (“traditional healing practices”), Khakas им-том (im-tom, “medicine”), Tuvan эм-таң (em-tañ, “medicine”).
