[edit]Inherited from Old Church Slavonic зимѫсь (zimǫsĭ), a compound of зимѫ (zimǫ, “winter”) + сь (sĭ, “this”), thus reflecting a fossilized accusative case of зима (zima). Compare Serbo-Croatian зимус.
