Uncertain. Possibly from Old Slovak zrkadlo +‎ -атко (-atko), perhaps by metathesis. For the epenthetic -в- (-v-), compare Polish zwierciadło. Alternatively, from Old Slovak zvrat (reversal) +‎ -ко (-ko).
