Etymology

Possibly from Proto-Samic *jiektē. Akin to Finnish ehtoo (evening) (dialectal, dated, poetic) and Estonian õhtu (evening). Cognates among the Sámi languages include Skolt Sami jåhtta and Northern Sami ikte.
