[edit]Possibly from Proto-Samic *jiektē. Akin to Finnish ehtoo (“evening”) (dialectal, dated, poetic) and Estonian õhtu (“evening”). Cognates among the Sámi languages include Skolt Sami jåhtta and Northern Sami ikte.
