[edit]Possibly borrowed from dialectal Ukrainian ді́до (dído), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *dědъ. Native inheritance would have yielded *дзедо (*dzedo). Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn дїдо (djido) and Slovak dedo.
