Bulgarian
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Church Slavonic гѫсли (gǫsli), from Proto-Slavic *gǫsli. Old Church Slavonic ѫ (ǫ) regularly gives Bulgarian ъ (ǎ), so it is believed that the form with у (u) originates from western lects.
See the Proto-Slavic reconstruction for cognates in other languages.
