[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak hovädzina, from Proto-Slavic *govędina (“ox meat”), from *govędo + *-ina. Cognates include Russian говя́дина (govjádina), Serbo-Croatian говедина/govedina and Slovak hovädina. By surface analysis, *говедо (*hovedo) + -ина (-ina).
