Russian
[edit]Noun
[edit]гнѣздо́ • (gnězdó) n inan (genitive гнѣзда́, nominative plural гнѣ̈зда, genitive plural гнѣ̈здъ, diminutive гнѣ̈здышко)
- Pre-1918 spelling of гнездо́ (gnezdó).
Usage notes
[edit]- гнѣздо́ (gnězdó) is one of the few Russian terms in pre-1918 orthography in which a stressed ѣ (jě) is pronounced like the letter ё (jo). It is therefore written with a diaeresis in a similar fashion: ѣ̈ (jǒ). Note that this only occurs in certain inflections.
