Inherited from Old Slovak hliboký, from Proto-Slavic *glǫbokъ. Cognates include Belarusian глыбо́кі (hlybóki), Czech hluboký, Polish głęboki, Slovak hlboký and Ukrainian глибо́кий (hlybókyj).
