From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Kildin Sami

[edit]
Мӯр вӯннҍт (вуэнҍтэсь).

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Samic *oantē. Cognates include Northern Sami oattes and Skolt Sami vuẹʹddes.

Pronunciation

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

вӯннҍт (vūnn’t) (obsolete or dialectal)

  1. root
    Synonym: вуэнҍтэсь (vuen’tes’)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • Apparently, initially вӯннҍт meant any plant root in general, and вуэнҍтэсь meant a tree root specifically. However, nowadays this distinction seems to be lost.
