[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic вѣ́верица (vě́verica), from Proto-Slavic *vě̀verica, from *vě̀verь, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *wēweris, from Proto-Indo-European *we-wer-is, from *wer-.[1][2][3][4][5] Cognate with Russian ве́верица (véverica), Old Polish wiewierzyca.
