[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic воронъ (voronŭ, “black”), from Proto-Slavic *vornъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *warnás. Related to Russian воро́на (voróna, “crow”), Lithuanian var̃nas (“crow, raven”). Doublet of вран (vran), a borrowing from Old Church Slavonic.
