[edit]Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic въжделение (vŭždelenie), from Old Church Slavonic въжделѣти (vŭždelěti), from въз- (vŭz-) + желѣти (želěti). Compare возжела́ть (vozželátʹ). Related to Russian вожделе́ть (voždelétʹ, “to lust, desire strongly”), Russian жела́ть (želátʹ, “to wish, to desire”).
