[edit]From Proto-Permic *variš, possibly from Proto-Uralic *warᴈ (“crow”), in which case related to Finnish varis and Inari Sami vuorâš.
Permic cognates include Komi-Zyrian варыш (varyš) and Udmurt варыш (varyš).
