From *bešägü (five as a group), from Proto-Turkic *bẹ̄ĺ(k) (five).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (bešägü, five as a group); Bashkir бишәү (bişəw, five as a group), Kazakh бесеу (beseu, five as a group), Kumyk бешев (beşew, five as a group), Kyrgyz бешөө (beşöö, five), etc.
