[edit]From a turkic language (either Turkish makreme or Crimean Tatar maxrama) from Arabic مِقْرَمَة (miqrama, “ornamental fringe, embroidered veil”),[1] from مِقْرَم (miqram, “bedspread”), from قَرَمَ (qarama, “to gnaw”), from Proto-Semitic *q-r-m.
