From Old Turkic ambar (per the Chuvash entry) and/or Persian انبار (anbâr) (per the Turkish entry). Other Turkic cognates include Chuvash ампар (amp̬ar) and Turkish ambar. Outside the Turkic family, other cognates include Mongolian амбаар (ambaar) and Russian амбар (ambar).
