Etymology

Pseudo-loan from Ottoman Turkish, derived from حمام (hammam, bathhouse) +‎ ـلق (-lık), as also dialectal Albanian hamamllëk (bathhouse). The morphologically identical forms Old Anatolian Turkish حماملق (hammamlık, bath charge) and Turkish hamamlık (washroom) are separate parallel formations.
