[edit]From адвока́т (advokát, “lawyer”) + -щина (-ština, “-dom, -hood”). Meaning is slightly exceptional, in that it doesn't mean “lawyership” (the state of being of a lawyer) but rather the specific sleight of hand practised by a lawyer.
