[edit]From *aqa ini (“elder and elder brothers”), from Proto-Turkic *(i)āka (“elder brother”) + Proto-Turkic *ini (“younger brother”). Synchronously, equivalent to ака (aka, “elder brother”) + ийин (iyin, “younger brother”).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (aqa ini, “elder and younger brothers”); Kyrgyz агайын (agayın), агайин (agayin), агайни (agayni); Kazakh ағайын (ağaiyn, “a way to address a male congregation”), Uzbek ogʻayni (“brothers; male friends”), Uyghur ئاغا-ئىنى (agha-'ini, “younger and elder brothers”).
