Apparently from Turkic, whence also Kazakh абыржыған (abyrjyğan), Tatar аптыраган (aptırağan, confused, bewildered), аптырау (aptıraw, mystify, be confused), Chuvash аптӑрат (aptărat, confuse, torment, frustrate).
