Шьам (Šam, “Sham, archaic Arabic name for Damascus”) +‎ тәыла (tʷʼəla, “land of”), borrowed from Ottoman Turkish شام (Şam, “Damascus, Syria”), from Arabic اَلشَّام (aš-Šām, “Syria, Damascus”).
