Serbo-Croatian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Italian Stambucco/Stambuco. The original surname of members of the family was Standelberger (from Standel Pergher, aka Steinpryd), but in the Venetian branch of the family this was replaced (probably due to the difficulty Italians had in pronouncing it) by the nickname Stambuco, from German Stammbuch (“family register”), hence Standelpergher detto Stambucco, which is the attested surname of the first immigrant from Prague to the Croatian island of Brač in 1710.
