[edit]From у́рка (úrka, “a criminal”) + Украи́на (Ukraína), originally from Ukrainian Уркаї́на (Urkajína). Coined in 2004 after the Orange Revolution, and popularised in 2011 from its usage in the satirical novel S.N.U.F.F..
