[edit]From но́вый (nóvyj) + -о- (-o-) + слобода́ (slobodá) + -ская (-skaja). The newest, colloquial stress comes from the re-analyzed using the compound но́во- (nóvo-) + слободска́я (slobodskája) with loose attachment of morphemes.
