[edit]Uncertain. Perhaps derived from Old Slovak kocúr (“tomcat”), whence the surnames of Polish Kocur and Slovak Kocúr. Cognates include Hungarian Kucora, Kuczora and Serbo-Croatian Куцура / Kucura.
