[edit]Calque of Ancient Greek Θεόδωρος (Theódōros, “gift of God”). By surface analysis, божи (boži, “God's”) + дар (dar, “gift”).
Doublet of Божи́дор (Božídor), a partial calque in which the second component is left as is.
