Etymology
[edit]According to Vycichl, most likely a Semitic borrowing akin to Aramaic חָנוּתָא (ḥānūṯā). He rejects the hypothesis of a derivation from Demotic ḥt-ntr, from Egyptian ḥwt-nṯrt (“temple”, literally “god's mansion”) (as found in Černý) on phonetic grounds, as no variants rhyme with ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ (noute).
