[edit]From φωνομᾰχέω (phōnomăkhéō, “to dispute about words”) + -ῐ́ᾱ (-ĭ́ā), from φωνή (phōnḗ, “word”) + μᾰ́χη (mắkhē, “battle”) + -έω (-éō).
