φάσκωλος
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- φάσκωλον (pháskōlon)
Etymology
[edit]It seems formally evident to connect φάσκος (pháskos), in which case the bag would have denominated after a skin from which the hairs have not been removed. Pokorny connects also βάσκιοι (báskioi, “bundles of dry wood”). A Pre-Greek origin seems probable.
