[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *tórmos (“borehole”), from Proto-Indo-European *terh₁- (“to rub, bore, twist”). Cognate with Hittite [script needed] (tarma-, “nail, peg”), as well as perhaps Proto-Germanic *þarmaz (“gut, intestine”).[1]
