σαῦσαξ
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Older etymologies involve connections with σαυκρόν (saukrón, “delicate, light”), σαυχμόν (saukhmón, “tender, unsound, weak”) and σαυσαρόν (sausarón, “whispering, slanderous”). Furnée is undoubtedly correct in connecting σώσικες (sṓsikes, “cooked beans”), which shows that the word is Pre-Greek.
